The North American Studies Program has just joined Facebook - please drop by and "like" our page!
We intend to post news, pictures, things of interest, and trivia, and enable friends and  prospective students to get an inside and up-to-date look at what's happening around here. We hope this is going to be another useful space of communication, interaction and collaboration. You may also follow us on Twitter.

The North American Studies Program welcomes three new faculty members: Dr. Henrike Viehrig (Political Science) and Dr. Klaas Staal (Economics) have joined the team at the beginning of October.  An expert on media and public opinion in foreign and security policy, Dr. Viehrig holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cologne.  Dr. Staal received his Ph.D. from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and works in the fields of political economy, public economics, and applied game theory. Both will be teaching classes in the MA North American Studies as well as the BA English Studies. We also cordially welcome Dr. Elena Circovic, who has taken the position as visiting scholar for the academic year 2011-12. Dr. Circovic holds a Ph.D. from York University, Toronto, and teaches in the module Politics and Society.

In August 2011 Dr. Elisabeth Schaefer-Wünsche joined the North American Studies program again; she is currently designing the concept of a research project entitled "Knowledge Landscapes North America." Katrin Dauenhauer will join the program in November as a research assistant, working on a project entitled "Mimikry als Kommunikation." PD Dr. Eva-Sabine Zehelein has returned to the University of Bonn in the position of an academic senior lecturer. Dr. Zehelein spent the academic year 2010-11 as an interim professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen and is now teaching in the BA English Studies.

Maren Erdmann has joined the team as our new student assistant. Ms. Erdmann has finished her BA in Political Science and History at the University of Aachen and is currently a first year MA student in the North American Studies Program. We say goodbye to our student assistants Teresa Teklic and Katharina Hartmann. Ms. Teklic is currently spending a year in Sheffield, UK. Ms. Hartmann has taken up a position with the Fulbright Commission in Berlin. We thank them for their engaged work in the program and wish both all the best for their futures.

We have opened a ‘virtual branch’ at the University’s “Alumni-Portal” and would like to invite all former and current students to join us by signing up for the group “North American Studies” – where we will keep you informed about events hosted by the program and offer a unique opportunity for you to interact with your fellow students/alumni.
