Want to pursue your MA with us? Next application phase: 7 to 20 May!
We will provide a link to the online application at the beginning of that month.
The MA North American Studies is a transdisciplinary, research orientated degree
program which builds on the experience of the North American Studies Program of
the University of Bonn established in 1990. The MA program aims at students who
are dedicated to transdisciplinary work and intercultural exchange, have a
strong background, for instance, in literary and cultural studies, political
science, history, postcolonial studies, economics, or media studies, want to
gain expertise in North American culture, literature, politics, history, and
economics and pursue a Master of Arts (MA).
This fully accredited two-year program (120 CP) has literary and cultural studies at its core and allows you to do original
research for your MA thesis. The program offers you a unique variety of
possible specializations, made possible by joining forces with the MA program
in North American Studies at the University of Cologne and a cooperation of
different institutes and faculties of the University of Bonn, including the
Department of British, American and Celtic Studies, the Institute of Political
Science and Sociology, the Department of Economics, the Institutes of Media
Studies, Art History, Philosophy, and Geography, and the Department of
Protestant Theology. In this way the MA North American Studies gives you the
opportunity to focus on specific areas of interest while also undergoing a
systematic training in transdisciplinary scholarly research and debate.
